On Friday, March 30, Corey Helford Gallery is pleased to present Natalia Fabia’s “Miss Hooker Beauty Pageant 2012” at Dragonfly Bar in Hollywood. Following the scintillating success of Fabia’s 2008 pageant, the event celebrates the artist’s concept that “everyone is a hooker,” and like “a sparkle on steroids,” the upcoming pageant promises to be more electrifying than ever before.

Defined as “someone who sells one’s talents, abilities, or name for money,” Fabia notes “a hooker to me means a rad, strong, talented, tough, colorful, independent, stylish, and beautiful woman.” The pageant is Fabia’s platform to highlight real women in Hollywood’s music and art scene with a part burlesque performance and part improvised event that applauds beauty, brains and brawn.

Based on the original pageant competition format, the night will feature three main categories – with an emphasis on each contestant’s unusual talents as they tussle for the title of Miss Hooker 2012. Fabia adds, “Real pageants now focus on looks, bathing suit category and popularity, not even airing the talent competition on TV. These hookers happen to be beautiful, but they are also highly talented and creative. The pageant will showcase that and more, while being amusing and funny!”

Evening Gown: Each contestant’s trademark sassy style will be on display as they cruise down the aisle, runway style, in their own custom dresses.

Talent: Hidden talents, unique skills and clever tricks will steal the show, which can range from hula-hooping and breathing fire to a rare comedy ventriloquist dummy performance.

Interview: Three contestants will face the final challenge — a question and answer session that will test and titillate.

Joined by comedian host Brian Posehn (The Five Year Engagement, The Sarah Silverman Program, Mr. Show with Bob and David) and a surprise ensemble of celebrity judges, Miss One Dolla No Holla, the winner of Miss Hooker 2008 will return to perform a special musical number for the crowning of Miss Hooker 2012. The event will also feature custom opening number costumes by Los Angeles designer Jessica Louise, creative production by Vanessa Burgundy and prizes from Hairroin Salon, Bonsoir Bella Bikinis and TUK Shoes.

“Miss Hooker Beauty Pageant 2012” takes place Friday, March 30 at Dragonfly Bar. There is a $10 cover charge and guests must be 21 or over to attend. The event will be followed by “Hookers” a group exhibition of paintings of “modern industrious women” curated by Natalia Fabia, opening Saturday, March 31 at Corey Helford Gallery.

THEN the following night come to Corey Helford Gallery for a group show Curated by Natalia:

Natalia Fabia

Natalia Fabia’s paintings are the signature of LA’s “new progressive” women of the 21st century.  Like the independent working class of women who emerged from the Industrial Revolution or the liberated “Flappers” of the 1920’s, Natalia’s women are unabashed, aggressive and confident as she documents their influence on the lifestyle of an enrapt world. Irreverently calling them “hookers” – she uses the term like men use “dude” –  she is fueled and fascinated by their color, their sparkles, their sultriness and their strength.

Natalia Fabia is of Polish descent and was raised in Southern California where she graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. A traditional, classically-trained oil painter, Fabia is inspired by artists Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and John Singer Sargent, ornate interiors, wild animals, voyeurism, and punk rock. In 2008, Fabia produced the first known Miss Hooker Beauty Pageant and her jewelry line Hookerfeathers adorns celebrities and fans alike. Her work has also been featured in numerous galleries and museums worldwide. She has been featured in LA Weekly’s 2010 People Issue, Art Ltd., Angeleno, Juxtapoz, Inked and New York Arts magazine as well as appeared on Miami Ink, KNBC News, Fox 11 News, and was interviewed by Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols on Los Angeles’ Indie 103.1.
