This Halloween, vintage hauntings and creepy DIY costumes come to KK
Gallery with a very special show from one of LAʼs most prolific artists.
Gary Baseman opens up his vault and showcases for the first time a selection
from his vintage Halloween photo collection dating back to 1915. Basemanʼs
collection of over 1500 photographs has been the inspiration for and the
thread through a series of haunting original paintings, special edition prints,
installations and videos. This multi-media exhibit will celebrate not only
Basemanʼs favorite holiday, but the debut show of the newly founded KK
Gallery on Chung King Road in Chinatown. Opening night will have the artistʼs
presence and a special musical performance by Nightmare and The Cat.
NOTES TO EDITORS:
ABOUT GARY BASEMAN:
Gary was named one of the 100 most creative minds in Entertainment by
Entertainment weekly. Outside of his work as a fine artist, he was the creator
of 3 x Emmy-winning ABC/Disney cartoon series, Teacherʼs Pet, and the

Basemanʼs aesthetic combines iconic pop art images, pre and post-war
vintage motifs, cross-cultural mythology and literary and psychological
archetypes. He has shown in Israel, Italy, Brazil, Germany, Russia and all
over the United States and to celebrate his career he will have a retrospective
at the Skirball Cultural Center in April 2013.
