Tonight in Culver City

It’s a wild visual experience and I can’t urge everyone enough to come by and check out the opening of this truly unique exhibition. 10-foot tall women, sparkling pink elephants, neon graffiti – Colin Christian and RISK have created an unforgettable two-artist show that you won’t want to miss. The CHG refreshment area and DJ will be on hand from 7-10PM tonight to celebrate and the artists will both be in attendance. If you can’t make it, the online preview can be requested at jch@coreyhelfordgallery.com.

I thought this was such a cute idea for a show. I loved  Fractured Fairy Tales growing up. This Show is tonight at WWA Gallery in Culver City.

Curated by Sandra Equihua and Drake Brodahl, Fractured Fairy Tales unleashes its’ talking animals and imprisoned princesses to the world Saturday, July 7th 2012.

Description: Image removed by sender. Ann Shen imageAmongst the oldest traditions in storytelling, these dark and bite -size cautionary fables were eventually reinvented and brought to life through Animation as enchanting and magical tales: where we are taught that obstacles can be overcome, ugliness turns to beauty, and a nobody can become a hero, in an honest quest towards “happily ever after.” Legendary Animators, such as those who worked for Walt Disney, have stylistically defined most of the characters from these tales that we’ve come to know and love today.

Bridgette Barriger – Snow White and Rose Red

It is therefore fitting that Fractured Fairy Tales has some of today’s top Animation artists reinterpreting these magical worlds. While aesthetic influences can still be seen, each of the artists has brought their own unique style and vision, giving a new twist to these timeless classics.

Open to the public, the gallery reception for Fractured Fairy Tales is from 7 -10PM Saturday, July 7th. The exhibition will run until August 11th, 2012.

Sandra Equihua – Mr and Mrs Dumpty

Sadie Figueroa – Curious Red
