Of course Japanese people would invent a mold to grow cucumbers into shapes. Because food can be entertaining and beautiful. Would you pay $2.5 for a heart shaped cucumber. I think if i was making a really special salad for someone i would.
How ever as lovely as a square or heart shaped melon is paying over $5 is a bit silly. One you get inside its all the same. These guys run $100-$200.
Much more economical.
