Social Activism TRUMPS Social Media : complacency and false hero worship of america
I have watched my nation be groomed like a pedofile grooms his prey. I have watched the media and national networks generating degrees of complacency and false hero worship to the likes of which I have never seen. Untalented vacuous hacks have become media darlings with the rise of social media. It has very much catapulted the self aggrandizing to levels of respect and admiration not earned and certainly not deserved. Mediocracy is currently at an all time high.
We will literally have a reality TV star about to hold our nation’s highest office and, honestly, America has gotten what it asked for.
Our country is divided into sections that don’t really care to understand each other in a real way.
I have lived in California my whole life. I live in a bubble. I can’t begin to understand the mindset and reality of someone who lives in the heart of say, Alabama. Honestly, I haven’t really tried very hard either. Our liberal State is liberating. My complaints are meaningless because I know that I am blessed on a daily basis (compared to much of my fellow countrymen).
I can’t remember a time in my lifetime that I have witnessed so much hate and unwillingness to compromise between people and government. It’s obvious our system is broken. It has been broken for decades. Change needs to start in your local governments and work its way up though the veins to the state level until it reaches the heart of the national government. Start being present if you are not happy. If you don’t know who represents your local district, inform yourself. During the outcry over the electoral college system this past November, when people called foul, I just laughed.
Why do people only care about something until the next Instagram post or fashion trend?
The electoral college system is archaic and needs to be revised to suit our national growth and modern reality. But this should have been an issue protested and changed after Al Gore lost the election. This change would benefit both parties, considering the popular vote is literally the actual voice and choice of the people. Personally, I always consider both sides of an issue and how it will effect everyone before I make a decision to support a cause or candidate. In this past election, like many Americans, I was not thrilled with my choices. But like the majority of Americans that voted I voted with my conscious . I did not elect who will be running my government and honestly the line up of cabinet members is terrifying to me. It’s like the Skeksis in the Dark Crystal are running our government and we are ALL gelflings.
But I am hopeful…
On the eve of the most controversial inauguration in my lifetime I am hopeful that people will try to understand each other a little better, that people will stand up for themselves and others regardless of personal gain or emotional attachment. Be involved because they see an injustice and are a just person. I am here and will stand on the side of the people who need me the most.
I am your sister you are my family.
