When I was a little girl there was a magical place where it was Christmas everyday in Scotts Valley, CA.
In 1957 Santa’s Village was built by a man who did not have an ideal Christmas in his childhood. He decided to create a theme park chain called Santa’s Village, where Christmas would happen everyday because of this.
Gnomes and elves, petting zoos, reindeer and of course Santa were all there, as well as so many cute fun christmas themed rides.
I remember there was a gift shop area in the center of the park where you could find the most beautiful things. Including real decorated eggs with tiny dioramas inside. My mother told me the other day I get to inherit the eggs someday, I think I’m going to request one as my next Christmas gift. I remember vaguely the sweet little old lady who made and sold them.
I think I had my fourth birthday party there and visited several other times before they closed in 1979.
Later on in my very young teen years there was a punk rock club in Santa Cruz called Club Culture. One of the trumpet playing rabbits from Santa’s Village looked down from the roof of the building next door, which always made me very happy. I will always remember fondly what a wonderful place it was.
