Wojtek The Soldier Bear

by J.L

Some bears happen to be war veterans. Wojtek was a Syrian brown bear cub adopted by solders of the 22nd artillery supply company of the polish II corps while stationed in Iran during 1942.

He was milk-fed as a cub and raised by the soldiers as a unofficial mascot.

Wojtek was drafted into the polish army as a private so he could continue on with the 22nd when they moved on to their next assignment.

He enjoyed drinking beer, smoking cigarettes, and wrestling.

Wojtek helped transport ammunition with his brute bear strength and was very well loved by his fellow soldiers.

He retired to Scotland in 1945 after the war.

I heard on BBC there is a new documentary about Wojtek and his life called Wojtek the Bear who went to war. for more information go to: http://www.wojtekfilm.com/large/index.html

I ordered a copy so I will let you know if its good once I receive and watch it.
